No.1 Sentai Gozyuger Concludes with a Grand Finale, Unmasked Roll Call Marks a Milestone as Super Sentai Reaches a Turning Point in Its 50-Year History

The final episode of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, the latest entry in the long-running Super Sentai franchise (airs Sundays at 9:30 a.m. on TV Asahi), titled “We Are, No.1 Sentai Gozyuger!”, was broadcast on the 8th. With this episode, the Super Sentai series reached a major turning point, bringing its 50-year history to a symbolic close.

Standing before Hoeru Tono (played by Mio Fuyuno), who had unexpectedly emerged as the No.1 contender in the Ring Contest, Fire Candle (Daisuke Sanbongi) appeared once again. His objective was clear: to bring their long-standing rivalry to an end. As the two clashed in a ferocious, beast-like battle, Hoeru reflected on the days he had spent alongside the Gozyuger team.

What did Rikuo (Hideharu Suzuki), Ryugi (Masakazu Kanda), Kinjiro (Jin Matsumoto), Sumino (Kohaku Shida), and Mashiro (Kaiki Kimura) mean to Hoeru, who had lived his life as an outsider? And what was it that he truly desired beyond the battles? Upon finding his answer, Hoeru finally conveyed his wish to Tega Sword (voiced by Yuki Kaji).
Hoeru’s wish was to restart the Ring Contest.

The finale featured the franchise’s traditional unmasked roll call, culminating in the declaration that also serves as the episode’s title:

“We Are, No.1 Sentai Gozyuger!”

The scene powerfully evoked the legacy and spirit built over five decades of Super Sentai history.

The Super Sentai franchise first began in 1975 with Himitsu Sentai Gorenger and marked its 50th anniversary this year. With No.1 Sentai Gozyuger as its 49th installment, the series now enters a period of transition.

Beginning next week on the 15th, a brand-new tokusatsu initiative titled PROJECT R.E.D. will launch. Its first entry, Super Space Sheriff Gavan: Infinity, is set to air, ushering in a new era of heroic storytelling.
