Universal Cool Japan 2026 at USJ Highlights Jujutsu Kaisen Attractions and Teases a Mysterious Frieren Collaboration

Universal Studios Japan launched Universal Cool Japan 2026 on January 30, bringing together a lineup of globally popular Japanese franchises. The event features immersive attractions based on Detective Conan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and other hit titles, with a highly anticipated Frieren Beyond Journey’s End collaboration also planned.

A Diverse Lineup of Japanese Hit Franchises

Universal Cool Japan 2026 includes attractions inspired by Detective Conan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Keigo Higashino’s Masquerade novel series, and the popular game Monster Hunter Wilds. A first time collaboration with Frieren Beyond Journey’s End is scheduled to debut in early summer, though details remain undisclosed.

At the press preview, Ken Kakudo, Manager of the Brand Marketing Department at USJ LLC, spoke about the event. He expressed gratitude to the creators and rights holders of each franchise and emphasized that guests can enjoy not only attractions, but also restaurants, merchandise, and themed food through all five senses.

Detective Conan Experiences Expand with New Thrills

Regarding Detective Conan The Escape Prologue to the Highway, Kakudo noted that new mechanics have been added to heighten tension, along with tie ins to the latest Detective Conan theatrical film The Fallen Angel of the Highway.

He also highlighted Detective Conan The Real 4 D attraction and story driven experiences that combine live deduction, rides, and interactive storytelling.

Jujutsu Kaisen Attractions Showcase Past and Present

For JUJUTSU KAISEN The Real 4 D Clock Tower of Recurrence, Kakudo teased appearances not only by Yuji Itadori and the first year students, but also younger versions of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, inviting fans to look forward to how the story unfolds.

The JUJUTSU KAISEN Story Ride The Cursed Spirit Train will run in two phases, offering different developments across the season and promising a surprise appearance in the finale.

Masquerade and Monster Hunter Bring Dining to Life

Keigo Higashino’s Masquerade series attraction Peril at the Masquerade features a mystery show paired with a buffet, which Kakudo described as having evolved into a menu that evokes the atmosphere of Venice.

Meanwhile, MONSTER HUNTER WILDS Wudwud Feast invites guests to enjoy open fire style dishes inspired by the game’s world, emphasizing rich visuals and sizzling presentation.

Frieren Collaboration Hinted for Early Summer

Expectations are high for the upcoming Frieren Beyond Journey’s End collaboration. While only confirmed as a limited attraction at this stage, Kakudo stated that USJ is preparing a completely new experience and encouraged fans to await further announcements.

When asked about incorporating newer titles like Frieren, he explained that USJ works closely with licensors and creators rather than selecting works unilaterally. He added that the team carefully considers the momentum of each anime and its original work, as well as what guests truly want, when developing collaborations.
