The anime Kaiju No. 8 is officially set to receive a final arc, bringing the adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto’s hit manga, which has surpassed 19 million copies in circulation, toward its conclusion. The announcement was made during the Jump Festa 2026 Super Stage held on December 20, shortly after the second season finished airing in September 2025. The event featured appearances by main cast members, including Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino, Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa, Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina, and Koki Uchiyama as Gen Narumi.

Alongside the announcement, a new visual and promotional video for the final arc were unveiled. The footage depicts Defense Force members battling evolved kaiju that push them to the brink, the uncertain fate of Isao Shinomiya, who has been absorbed by Kaiju No. 9, and Kafka’s resolve as he continues to fight as Kaiju No. 8.

Original Short Anime Focused on Gen Narumi Announced

In addition, an original short anime titled “Narumi’s Ordinary Days” was announced in celebration of Gen Narumi’s birthday. The project is described as a spin off focusing on Narumi’s everyday life and is reminiscent of the special episode “Hoshina’s Day Off,” which was screened in March 2025.

“To everyone who came to see the Kaiju No. 8 stage, and to all the cast members, thank you as always. This year has been a major one for Kaiju No. 8, with the broadcast of season two and the release of the game. The manga has successfully reached its final chapter, but even though the serialization has ended, Kafka and the others continue to come alive through my exchanges with the anime and game production teams, constantly creating new scenes. Kaiju No. 8 as a work is far from over. I plan to keep throwing out ideas nonstop. Please continue to look forward to Kafka and the others in the future.”

The original manga is serialized on Shonen Jump Plus, with the anime’s first season airing in April 2024. The second season aired in 2025 and followed the story after Kafka was taken into custody by the Defense Force as Kaiju No. 8. The introduction of Gen Narumi, known as the strongest man in the Defense Force and leader of the First Division, as well as the emergence of compatible users of the identified kaiju weapons known as Numbers, drew widespread attention and global acclaim.
