A brand-new teaser trailer has been released for There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Shine!~, a special 5-episode compilation (Episodes 13–17) from the upcoming sequel to the Watanare anime series. The compilation will premiere in Japanese theaters on November 21.

The sequel picks up directly after Episode 12 and adapts Volume 4 of the original light novel. Broadcast details for the TV version are expected to be revealed at a later date.

In the teaser, Renako Amaori (voiced by Kanna Nakamura), a former introvert who made a fresh start in high school, is seen being led into a cosplay costume room by the lively moodmaker of the group, Kaho Koyanagi (voiced by Takako Tanaka). As Renako tries on cosplay, we begin to see the stirrings of change within her.

Next Shine! follows Renako, a girl who left her gloomy middle school self behind and successfully reinvented herself for high school. By chance, she becomes part of the top social group at Ashigaya High, and before she knows it, receives confessions from both Mai Oduka, the school’s charming “prince,” and Ajisai Sena, the school’s “angel.”

Torn over how to respond, Renako agrees to join Kaho in a cosplay event, temporarily postponing her answer. However, when she experiences Kaho’s heartfelt affection through cosplay, something begins to shift inside her. What is it that she truly wants?

Is being in a relationship really impossible for her? Or... was it never that impossible to begin with? The sequel explores Renako’s emotional awakening.
