‘There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…’ Sequel Announced! 5-Episode Special Edition to Premiere in Theaters This November, Teaser Revealed

The sequel to the TV anime There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless… (JP: Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai jan, Murimuri! (※Muri janakatta!?)), also known as Watanare, has officially been announced.

Ahead of its TV broadcast, a 5-episode special compilation (episodes 13 through 17) will premiere in Japanese theaters starting November 21 under the title There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Shine!~.

The upcoming sequel continues the story from Episode 12 (aired on the 22nd), covering the events of Volume 4 of the original light novel. It will span Episodes 13 to 17. Details such as the TV airdate will be announced at a later time.

A teaser trailer for the special compilation Next Shine! was also unveiled. The film will be screened at Shinjuku Wald 9 and other theaters across Japan starting November 21, 2025.

The newly revealed visual features the protagonist Renako Amaori (CV: Kanna Nakamura), who has undergone a high school glow-up. She's seen smiling while surrounded by the other four members of her high school clique “Quintet”: the school's princely idol Mai Oduka (CV: Saori Ōnishi), the angelic Ajisai Sena (CV: Yukari Anzai), the cool beauty Satsuki Koto (CV: Kana Ichinose), and the bubbly moodmaker Kaho Koyanagi (CV: Takako Tanaka).

Next Shine! continues the story of Renako Amaori, a girl who left behind her gloomy past to reinvent herself in high school. She unexpectedly lands in the school’s top social circle, only to find herself being confessed to by both Mai Oduka and Ajisai Sena (the school’s “prince” and “angel,”) respectively.

As Renako hesitates on how to respond, she agrees to participate in a cosplay event with her friend Kaho. While postponing her answer under the guise of helping a friend, she begins to realize that something might be shifting inside her. Through cosplay, she comes into contact with Kaho’s feelings of affection and begins to question what she truly desires.

Is being in a relationship really impossible for her? Or… was it never that impossible to begin with? The new chapters will explore her emotional journey.
