The original manga The Prince of Tennis (often called Tenipuri) ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2008. Its sequel series, The Prince of Tennis II, has been serialized in Jump SQ since 2009. The story follows middle school tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen as he grows through competition alongside his teammates.
The anime adaptation began airing on TV Tokyo in October 2001, followed by films, events, and other spin-offs. After The Prince of Tennis II concluded its broadcast in March 2012, the series returned with The Prince of Tennis II U-17 World Cup in 2022. That season expanded the stage to national and international tournaments, showcasing intense matches against rival teams from around the world.
The newly announced Final Selection Match will serve as a direct sequel to The Prince of Tennis II U-17 World Cup SEMIFINAL, which aired in 2024 and focused on Japan’s dramatic showdown against Germany.
