New Official Recipe from “The Apothecary Diaries” After a Month-Long Wait

A playful new recipe that brings the brothel’s infamous drink to your kitchen—without the poison.

The official X account for the anime The Apothecary Diaries introduced the “Two-Layered Straw Mocktail” recipe on September 6, marking the first new release in a month. Fans quickly reacted with excitement.

The post quoted a passage from Chapter 23, “Bakkan,” in Volume 1: “A glass vessel filled with liquor of two different colors was pleasing to the eye. Used as a little trick to amuse a guest, the courtesan drank only the lower layer through a straw without arousing suspicion.” Alongside this, the account shared the recipe link.

Supervised by the author, crafted by the recipe creator
The recipe was published on the official site of the fashion magazine S Cawaii!, which runs the serialized project “The Apothecary Diaries Cooking Series.” Supervised by original author Natsu Hyūga, it was devised by recipe creator Yō Makusu, who handles the official recipes. This time, the drink served by courtesans in the red-light district has been reimagined as a non-alcoholic mocktail, with photos and step-by-step instructions.

The official X post began with “New #KusuriyaRecipe released!” and humorously explained: “The poisonous drink given by courtesans to men in the story has been recreated as a non-alcoholic version with orange juice and tea. Of course, without the poison.” It encouraged fans to try it at home, especially over the weekend.

Fans are already reacting

Online fans commented enthusiastically “New recipe dropped!” “This looks delicious too,” and “I want to try this one as well.”

This work is a “mystery-solving entertainment” that follows Maomao, the daughter of an apothecary with an unusual obsession with poisons and medicines, and Jinshi, a beautiful yet enigmatic eunuch, as they tackle a series of perplexing incidents within the imperial court. The original story is written by Natsu Hyūga, with illustrations by Touko Shino.
