Evangelion Takes Over North America! “EVANGELION WIND SYMPHONY 2025” Makes Its North American Debut

Yoko Takahashi appears at Anime NYC, one of the largest anime conventions in North America! Together with fans in New York, she sang “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” in a massive chorus!

From August 21–24, 2025, New York City hosted Anime NYC, one of North America’s largest anime conventions, drawing around 140,000 attendees to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. As part of Evangelion’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Yoko Takahashi returned to the U.S. for the first time in over a decade to headline the EVANGELION 30th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL LIVE on August 22, captivating an audience of 2,000 with a passionate, one-night-only performance.

The concert opened dramatically with a special 30th anniversary video and an Evangelion Unit-01 battle sequence, segueing into “TENSIONS -welcome to the stage.” Takahashi followed with powerful renditions of “Kokoro yo Genshi ni Modore 2020” and the classic “Tamashii no Refrain,” instantly raising the energy. She then delivered a moving performance of the timeless ending theme “Fly Me to the Moon (2020 ver.),” enchanting the audience with her soulful vocals.

In her MC, spoken entirely in English, Takahashi reflected on her musical journey, her first encounter with Evangelion, and her gratitude to fans, concluding with heartfelt words: “I’m so happy to meet you all here in New York, a city I love so much. With love and prayer, I sing from my heart and soul, may my love reach all of you! Thank you, everyone! Please enjoy the show to the fullest!!” The crowd erupted in applause as the concert moved into its second half.

Performances included “The Scent of Sin is Happiness” from the 1996 soundtrack, “What if?” from Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, and the fiery “Red Moon” from EVANGELION EXTREME, complete with fan participation in a choreographed dance. She continued with the electronic-driven “Final Call,” before closing the night with her signature song, the TV series’ opening theme, “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis.” From the very first notes, the audience joined in a thunderous sing-along, filling the hall with shared emotion.
The one-hour set distilled three decades of Evangelion into an unforgettable celebration, uniting fans across borders through music and passion.
