The story and preview images for Episode 5 of LAZARUS, produced by MAPPA, have been revealed. With Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) directing and Akemi Hayashi (BANANA FISH) handling character design, the series is backed by a powerhouse team. Episode 5 is set to premiere in Japan on Sunday, May 4, at 11:45 PM (JST), and will later stream worldwide on various platforms.

Episode 5 Story

"PRETTY VACANT"

The Lazarus team learns that Delta Pharmaceuticals may have been in contact with Skinner.
They break into the home of the company’s president, Ahmed, but find that he had only been sending data unilaterally.
With this discovery, the Lazarus team decides to turn the tables and set a trap for Skinner.

They reason that if they announce the completion of a cure for Hapuna, Skinner will surely come to verify it.
A fake press conference is organized, inviting all key stakeholders.
But the one who appears—catching everyone off guard—is none other than the ultimate hacker… Lin.

Introduction

The year is 2052.

The world has entered an unprecedented era of peace, largely thanks to “Hapuna,” a painkiller developed by renowned neuroscientist Skinner. With no side effects, the “miracle drug” spread rapidly across the globe, liberating humanity from pain.

But one day, Skinner vanished without a trace.

Three years later, he returns—not as a savior, but as a harbinger of doom. Hapuna was a trap: it causes death exactly three years after ingestion. Now, the countdown has begun.

“You have 30 days. If you find me before then, humanity may survive.”

The only salvation lies in a single vaccine possessed by Skinner himself. And if the world wants it, it must find him.

To counter Skinner’s plot, five elite agents from around the world have been assembled. Their mission: to save humanity. But what is Skinner’s true objective?
