The franchise has seen consecutive box office records in recent years, with Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine grossing ¥13.88 billion ($96.7 million) in 2023, followed by The Million-dollar Pentagram reaching ¥15.8 billion ($110 million) in 2024. To celebrate the film's success, special "cheer screenings" will commence on May 16 across eight theaters in six prefectures, including Nagano, the setting of the movie. Additionally, on May 23, screenings featuring synchronized penlight effects will be introduced. These penlights will automatically change colors in sync with the film's dialogue, music, and sound effects, enhancing the immersive experience. For instance, during snowy scenes, the penlights will emit a soft white glow, transforming the theater into a snow-covered landscape.
The narrative of One-eyed Flashback unfolds in the snowy mountains of Nagano Prefecture, focusing on Inspector Kansuke Yamato of the Nagano Prefectural Police and Kogoro Mouri. While pursuing a suspect, Yamato is caught in an avalanche after a bullet grazes his left eye. Ten months later, having miraculously survived, he investigates an attack on a researcher at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. As the observatory's parabolic antenna activates, Yamato's injured eye begins to throb, hinting at deeper mysteries. Simultaneously, Conan and Mouri, en route to meet a former Tokyo Metropolitan Police colleague, are drawn into a case involving gunshots and hidden memories linking the two detectives.
