The highly anticipated anime Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, the latest installment in the Gundam franchise, has unveiled its creditless opening animation. This sequence, first aired during Episode 2, features the new theme song “Plazma” by acclaimed artist Kenshi Yonezu.

Studio Khara and Sunrise Team Up for a Bold New Gundam Vision

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX marks a groundbreaking collaboration between animation powerhouse Studio Khara and the legendary Sunrise. Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, the project follows a successful theatrical release earlier this year. The TV series premiered on April 8 and airs weekly on Tuesdays at 24:29 JST.

Tsurumaki not only helms the series as director but also handled the storyboard and direction of the opening sequence, bringing his signature visual flair to the production.

“Plazma” Dominates the Charts as It Debuts in the Anime Opening

Commissioned specifically as the opening theme for the series, “Plazma” was digitally released on January 20, 2025. The track quickly rose to popularity, becoming a long-standing hit. It swept the charts with 31 No.1 daily rankings and 4 No.1 weekly rankings during its first week.

Yonezu also performed “Plazma” during his Kenshi Yonezu 2025 TOUR / JUNK, which drew 440,000 fans across Japan and abroad.
