Yoko Kawanami, Voice of Midori in “Dr. Slump,” Passes Away at 67
It was announced on March 27 that voice actor Yoko Kawanami passed away on March 18. Her agency made the announcement via its official website.
The statement read:
“Our agency's talent, Yoko Kawanami (age 67), who had been undergoing medical treatment, sadly passed away on March 18, 2025 (Reiwa 7) due to peritoneal dissemination, despite continued efforts and treatment.”
The announcement expressed gratitude for the support she had received during her life and respectfully informed the public of her passing. It also noted, “In accordance with the wishes of her family, the wake and funeral were held privately with close relatives.” The agency apologized for the delayed notice and asked for understanding.
Born on April 22 and originally from Kanagawa Prefecture, Kawanami was a cherished presence in the world of anime. She voiced Midori-sensei in the Dr. Slump movies, Mitsuko Yamaoka in Mister Ajikko, Aoi Yume in Dream Soldier Wing-Man, and Rumi Koishikawa in Marmalade Boy, among many other roles that endeared her to fans over the decades.
