The hit original anime Lycoris Recoil (official abbreviation: LycoReco) is set to return with a brand-new original short series titled Lycoris Recoil: Friends are thieves of time., premiering April 16. The six-episode series will be released weekly on Wednesdays at 9 PM JST via ABEMA and other streaming platforms.

Set once again in the beloved Café LycoReco, the short anime will highlight the everyday lives of protagonists Chisato Nishikigi and Takina Inoue, exploring their interactions and subtle moments of growth.

6 New Key Visuals Drawn by Imigimuru Unveiled

Along with the announcement, a promotional video and six new key visuals—one for each episode—have been revealed. The visuals are original illustrations by Imigimuru, the anime’s character designer, and are based directly on the content of each episode.

The artwork teases a blend of casual atmosphere and suspicious expressions, giving fans a preview of the unique slice-of-life style to come.

Originally aired from July to September 2022, Lycoris Recoil follows elite DA (Direct Attack) agents called “Lycoris,” specifically focusing on the bond between two contrasting girls: the carefree and exceptionally skilled Chisato Nishikigi, and the cool, efficient but troubled Takina Inoue.

While working at the DA-affiliated café “LycoReco,” the pair balances their secretive missions with daily life. The series quickly gained viral popularity thanks to its shocking plot twists and heartfelt character development, achieving impressive Blu-ray sales—21,000 units in its first week, ranking 3rd on the Oricon Weekly Blu-ray Disc chart (October 3, 2022). It marked the highest first-week sales for a TV anime in fiscal 2022 and later received a stage adaptation.
