The stage adaptation of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away (produced by Toho, in collaboration with Studio Ghibli and PW Productions) has been honored with the Best New Play award at the WhatsOnStage Awards, one of the UK’s most esteemed theater accolades.

A Historic Achievement for Japanese Theater

Originally premiering at Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre in March 2022, Spirited Away: The Stage Play embarked on a domestic tour before making its London debut last year.

The West End run marked an unprecedented milestone in theater history, being the largest-scale Japanese-language production performed overseas with an all-Japanese cast.
