The highly anticipated Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, a new collaboration between renowned animation studios Sunrise and Khara, is making waves ahead of its television broadcast. The series’ theatrical prologue, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, is set to debut in theaters starting January 17.

On January 9, it was revealed that Kenshi Yonezu will perform the series’ theme song, Plasma. This announcement comes shortly after Yonezu’s return to the Kōhaku Uta Gassen last December and the start of his nationwide tour, Kenshi Yonezu 2025 TOUR / JUNK, which kicked off the same day in Miyagi.

Debut Performance and Trailer Release

During the opening performance of his tour on January 9, Yonezu himself announced that he had written Plasma specifically for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-. The song was also performed live for the first time at the event. Fans were treated to more excitement when the official trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-—featuring Plasma—was released at midnight on January 10, alongside a new artist photo of Yonezu.

A Star-Studded Team Brings Gundam to Life

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX unites the creative talents of two powerhouse studios: Sunrise, known for its iconic Gundam franchise, and Khara, the creators behind the Evangelion series. Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, who helmed the Rebuild of Evangelion films, the series features a stellar lineup, including scriptwriter Yoji Enokido and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita.

Cast and Characters

The story follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high school girl who becomes entangled in the underground world of illegal Mobile Suit battles known as Clan Battles. Voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa, Amate—under the alias "Machyu"—pilots the powerful GQuuuuuuX Mobile Suit, navigating a world of intense battles. Supporting cast members include Yui Ishikawa as Nyan and Shinba Tsuchiya as Shuji Ito, a mysterious pilot pursued by both the space military and police.

STORY

Amate Yuzuriha, a girl living peacefully in a space colony, crosses paths with Nyan, a young war refugee, and finds herself drawn into the dangerous realm of Clan Battles. Piloting the GQuuuuuuX under her alias, "Machyu," she embarks on a journey of fierce combat. Meanwhile, an enigmatic Mobile Suit Gundam and its young pilot, Shuji, appear, sparking events that herald a new era for humanity.
