USJ Donkey Kong Country Project Lead Expresses Gratitude to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto: “A Dream to Bring the Jungle to Life”
On December 12, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) announced that the Donkey Kong Country expansion within Super Nintendo World will open on December 11. During the press preview, Daniel Grier, Universal Creative Producer, shared heartfelt thanks to Nintendo and legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto for their collaboration in creating this groundbreaking project.
A Unique Collaboration with Nintendo
Super Nintendo World first opened in March 2021, featuring beloved Nintendo characters like Mario. This expansion increases the area’s size by 70% with Donkey Kong Country, originally slated for spring 2024 but now set to open during the Christmas season.
Grier expressed his gratitude, saying, “Donkey Kong Country is the world’s first theme park area based on the immensely popular Donkey Kong game series created by Nintendo. It’s been an incredible honor to work with Mr. Miyamoto and Nintendo’s talented team on this project.”
Inside the Golden Temple: A Journey into the World of Donkey Kong
Standing within the Golden Temple, a central feature of Donkey Kong Country, Grier remarked, “Here we are, deep within an ancient, glowing structure — the Golden Temple. As guests explore these mysterious corridors, we hope they feel a nostalgic connection to the games. The thrill of stepping into Donkey Kong’s world and going on an adventure with these iconic characters is extraordinary.”
He continued, “Thanks to the efforts of countless individuals in Japan and worldwide, we’ve created a truly special place. I’m confident that when guests catch their first glimpse of the Golden Temple in the distance, they’ll be filled with a sense of wonder and excitement.”
