Oishinbo Returns With a Direct Sequel After 34 Years

Oishinbo, written by Tetsu Kariya and illustrated by Akira Hanasaki, began serialization in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits in 1983 and has more than 135 million copies in circulation. The previous TV anime aired 136 episodes from 1988 to 1992, followed by TV specials in 1992 and 1993.

Shin Oishinbo continues the story of Tozai News' Ultimate Menu and its culinary rivalry with the Supreme Menu led by Yuzan Kaibara. The new story also involves young Daikensha president Ichiro Dan, his feelings for Yuko Kurita, and her relationship with Shiro Yamaoka.

The 2027 anime marks the franchise's first new animated production since the 1993 TV special. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation as a direct sequel, it is directed by Kenichi Nishida, with Takahiro Nagano handling series composition and Nozomi Kawashige responsible for character design. Animation production is being handled by SynergySP and Vega Entertainment.

Yohei Azakami stars as Shiro Yamaoka, Hitomi Sasaki as Yuko Kurita and Akio Otsuka as Yuzan Kaibara.
