Nue’s Exorcist Anime Begins in Summer 2027

The TV anime adaptation of Nue’s Exorcist is scheduled to begin airing nationwide on TV Asahi in summer 2027.

The series is based on Kota Kawae’s manga, which has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since May 2023.

The school dark fantasy follows high school student Gakuro Yajima, who has been able to see supernatural beings known as spirits since childhood.

At North High, Gakuro discovers a hidden room unknown to everyone else. Living inside is Nue, a mysterious female spirit with a love of subculture who has been waiting for someone to find the room. Their encounter dramatically changes Gakuro’s fate.

Kaito Miura, Saori Onishi and Sayumi Suzushiro Lead the Cast

Kaito Miura will voice Gakuro Yajima, while Saori Onishi will play Nue and Sayumi Suzushiro will voice Kazusa Suo.

Miura said he had already been reading and enjoying the manga before auditioning and was overjoyed when he learned that he had won the role.

The part marks his first time playing the protagonist of an anime series, and he said he hopes to grow alongside Gakuro while sharing the appeal of Nue’s Exorcist with as many viewers as possible.

Onishi said her first impression of Nue was that of a “cool beauty,” but she discovered while performing the role that the character had far more possibilities than could be summed up in a single phrase.

Suzushiro described Kazusa as a dependable character who leads Gakuro and the others forward, while also highlighting her strength in battle, concern for her companions and occasional cute side.

Special PV Reveals Gakuro and Nue’s Voices

The newly released special promotional video depicts Gakuro gaining power following his encounter with Nue.

The footage is accompanied by the anime’s main theme composed by MONACA and also reveals the character voices of Kaito Miura as Gakuro and Saori Onishi as Nue for the first time.

Character visuals have also been released for Gakuro, Nue, Kazusa Suo, Shiroha Fujino and Shitotsu Tomesode.

Studio HIBARI Handles Animation Production

Hiroyuki Hashimoto is directing the anime, with Hiroshi Seko responsible for series composition and Shunpei Mochizuki serving as character designer.

Takayuki Yamaguchi is the sound director, while Keiichi Okabe of MONACA is handling the music.

Animation production is being handled by Studio HIBARI.

Hashimoto said the characters were one of the strongest impressions he took from reading the manga and that the anime team aims to preserve the atmosphere of the original while bringing out both the characters’ cute qualities and the intensity of the action.

Creator Kota Kawae Celebrates the Anime Adaptation

Original creator Kota Kawae thanked readers for their support, saying it had made the anime adaptation possible.

Kawae also expressed excitement about Hiroyuki Hashimoto directing the series, noting that Hashimoto’s previous anime work had supported him during his time as a company employee.

He praised character designer Shunpei Mochizuki’s artwork and said he believes the cast, including Kaito Miura and Saori Onishi, will give the characters even greater presence in animation.

Nue’s Exorcist Combines Dark Fantasy and School Life

Music composer Keiichi Okabe said the original manga naturally combines a dark and serious world with the bright, pop atmosphere of school life.

He said that contrast provides an opportunity for MONACA to make use of its ability to create a wide range of musical styles while building a sound that supports the anime’s visuals and story.

Series composer Hiroshi Seko also said he hopes viewers will be able to enjoy the anime through its tension, excitement and Gakuro’s reactions as the story unfolds.
