Scarlet’s Journey Through the Land of the Dead

The story follows Scarlet as she travels through the chaotic Land of the Dead, where people from different eras and nations are mixed together. Along the way, she meets a variety of distinctive characters who shape her path.

Grave Diggers Voiced by Mamoru Miyano and Kenjirō Tsuda

Two mysterious grave diggers who appear in Scarlet’s dream are voiced by Mamoru Miyano and Kenjirō Tsuda. Miyano previously appeared in Hosoda’s works The Boy and the Beast as the older Ichirōhiko and in Belle as Youtuber Hitokawa Muitarō and Guttokoraemaru. This marks his third collaboration with Hosoda. Tsuda, who played the contemporary artist Jelinek in Belle, returns for his second Hosoda film. Their unsettling performances add intensity to the film’s atmosphere.

Michio Hazama as the Caravan Leader

Veteran voice actor Michio Hazama voices the elderly leader of a caravan who offers help to Scarlet and Hijiri. Hazama has long been recognized as the Japanese dubbing voice for Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky series and has dubbed for stars such as Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. At 91, he continues his career as the world’s oldest active voice actor, bringing a warm yet resonant tone to his character.

Toshio Furukawa as the Innkeeper

Toshio Furukawa voices the innkeeper who speaks of the “unseen place” that Scarlet seeks. Known for roles such as Ataru Moroboshi in Urusei Yatsura, Portgas D. Ace in One Piece, and Piccolo in Dragon Ball, Furukawa lends his distinctive voice to a pivotal character. His portrayal provides Scarlet with cryptic information that advances the story.
