Voice actress Akiko Sekine has passed away, her agency RME announced on its official website by August 3.
In a statement titled “Obituary,” company president Katsutoshi Shibata wrote, “Our talent Akiko Sekine had been battling cancer since 2023. She gave her utmost effort in her work as a voice actress, but sadly, her life has come to an end.” He added, “We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support and love she received during her lifetime, which she deeply appreciated.”

The announcement also included a comment from her husband, fellow voice actor Hidekatsu Shibata: “It has been over 30 years that I spent by my wife Akiko’s side until her passing. I am deeply grateful for the kindness and support we have received from so many people.”

Akiko Sekine was born on October 5 in Tokyo. Her notable roles included Shizuko Hiramatsu in the anime Aoki Densetsu Shoot!, the Goddess of Spring and Ondine in Sally the Witch, and Mio Kisaragi in the Tokimeki Memorial game series. She was also active as a narrator for various TV programs and commercials.
