[INTERVIEW] Wonderful Precure! Episode on Pet Loss Moves Voice Actors to Tears: “The Animators Who Brought This to Life Are Truly Amazing!”

Animal Encounters and Heartwarming Bonds

The next theme, fitting for Wanpuri, was “Stories with pets or animals.”
Naganawa talked about a pet Java sparrow at home.
Tanezaki and Ueda shared stories about their cats and the responsibilities of pet ownership. Matsuda became teary-eyed while listening, then shared how she slowly bonded with a friend’s shy cat, thanks to the owner’s help.

If I Could Live in Animal Town…

The cast imagined what they’d do if they lived in Animal Town.
Tanezaki exclaimed, “So many things! I’d watch Komugi sleep belly-up all day! I’d relax at Iroha’s dog park, eat Gou’s cooking, and have Sumire and Mayu pick out cosmetics for me at Pretty Holic!” Matsuda and Ueda nodded.
Matsuda added, “I love cosmetics too! I’d browse Pretty Holic while sneakily watching Yuki.”
Ueda also wrote “Pretty Holic” in her survey. “I want to see Yuki as the shop’s mascot cat, get served by Sumire, hear her sing, and if Komugi comes to the cat meeting... how cute would that be?”

Naganawa said she’d go shopping with Iroha and Komugi. Recalling Episode 37 where Komugi shops with Mayu and Yuki, she smiled: “Komugi usually wears a hoodie—where did she get it? Maybe Iroha took her shopping. I’d love to watch that moment... even just as a wall!”

Most Memorable Episode or Scene

The cast chose standout episodes from the 48 aired so far.

Naganawa picked Episode 23, “Wish Upon a Wow~~~n,” where Iroha gently says, “You’re beautiful, Komugi.”
“She doesn’t ask directly what’s wrong—she just stays close. That quiet kindness saved me.” Tanezaki was absent during this recording, and Naganawa said she deeply missed hearing her voice as Iroha. “Even though I wasn’t lonely, I missed Iroha—there are many kinds of loneliness.”

Hearing this, the cast wiped away tears.
Tanezaki recalled Episode 22, when she was also absent: “It was an episode about Komugi and Iroha working together. I wondered if messaging Naganawa would be a bad idea, but I couldn’t hold back. I sent, ‘Sorry we couldn’t record together.’”

She also chose three ad-libbed moments by fellow cast members:

Episode 13: Chiwa Saito (Sumire) humming a tune.

Episode 37: Gou’s father, played by Hiroshi Shirokuma, fumbling the word “trimming.”

Episode 40: Satoru’s monologue, with a surprising final ad-lib by Takuma Terashima.
