"Yu-Gi-Oh!" Recognized for Two Guinness World Records: Most Players in a Trading Card Game Tournament and Most Participants

Konami Digital Entertainment announced today, on the 30th, that the "Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game Duel Monsters" (Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG) large-scale duel tournament "Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES JAPAN TOKYO 2024" (YCSJ TOKYO 2024), held on the 28th and 29th at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center), achieved two Guinness World Records.

The "YCSJ TOKYO 2024," held for the first time over two days to commemorate its 10th occurrence, set records for the "Most players in a trading card game tournament" and the "Most participants in a trading card game tournament." A total of 7,443 participants dueled simultaneously, and over the course of two days, the same number participated in the tournament, securing its recognition as a Guinness World Record. The event also featured a Guinness World Record certification ceremony, and a video message from Shunsuke Kazama, the voice actor for Yugi Muto/Yami Yugi from the anime "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters," was played for the participants and duelists.

"Yu-Gi-Oh!" originated from the popular manga by Kazuki Takahashi, which was serialized in Shueisha's "Weekly Shonen Jump" starting in 1996. Konami Digital Entertainment has been developing home video games since 1998 and trading card games since 1999, with the franchise being beloved worldwide.
