Kingdom Manga Surpasses 110 Million Copies in Circulation, Reaches Milestone After Nearly 19 Years of Serialization; Volume 74 Released

Shueisha announced on December 12th that the popular manga series Kingdom, written by Hara Yasuhisa, has surpassed 110 million copies in circulation (including digital editions) with the release of the 74th volume on the 18th. This milestone was achieved approximately 19 years after the series began serialization in January 2006.

Achieving a historic milestone of 100 million copies

Other Shueisha titles that have surpassed 100 million copies in circulation include Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Park Mae Paichisho, Dragon Ball, the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Slam Dunk, ONE PIECE, NARUTO, BLEACH, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and My Hero Academia.

Serialized in Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha) since 2006, Kingdom is set in the Warring States period of ancient China. The story follows Shin, a young man who aspires to become a great general, and a young king who aims to unify China amidst centuries of warfare.

The series has been adapted into five anime seasons and a live-action film released in April 2019, which became a huge hit, grossing over 5.73 billion yen. Sequels to the live-action film were released in 2022, 2023, and 2024.


● Volume 74 Synopsis

In 232 BC, the Qin army, having suffered a crushing defeat at Gigan in the previous year, once again invades northern Zhao in an attempt at revenge. A massive force of 250,000 soldiers clashes with the Zhao army led by Li Mu on the Touza Plain. However, immediately after the battle commences, Shin and his Hi Shin Unit are lured away from the main battlefield by a separate Zhao force led by Li Mu. Seizing this opportunity, the Zhao army under Sima Sho targets Wang Jian's main force. Overwhelmed by the powerful Qing Ga Army, Wang Jian's headquarters is forced to retreat. The Qin army suffers another devastating defeat at the hands of Li Mu. While Xianyang is plunged into despair, Chancellor Chang Ping Jun offers a plan with "three pillars" to once again pursue the goal of unifying China...
