Production Cancellation Leaves Voice Actors Disheartened; Junichi Suwabe: "Memories Will Not Fade"
The production of the anime film "Yuri!!! on ICE The Movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE" has been cancelled, as announced on the official website on the 19th. Initially scheduled for a 2019 release, the film had been delayed, leading to this cancellation. Junichi Suwabe, the voice actor for the main character Viktor Nikiforov, expressed his thoughts on his X account.
On X, he expressed his disappointment, saying, "I am very saddened as there are fans around the world who have been looking forward to this work."
He added, "I hope that someday, in some form, the world where Viktor and the others live can be portrayed again... Meanwhile, let's look back at the beautifully concluded TV series. Memories will not fade."
The narrative of the series revolves around the world of men's figure skating, featuring Yuri Katsuki, a figure skater on the brink, and Viktor Nikiforov, a five-time world champion who becomes his coach, as they aim for the gold medal at the Grand Prix Final.
As the world's first full-scale figure skating anime, it gained popularity, and the movie was announced as a completely new production. It was supposed to release in 2019 but was delayed in September of that year to "significantly enhance the quality of the content."
After releasing a fifth-anniversary illustration for the TV anime in 2022, there has been no further update on the movie, leading to concerns among fans about its fate.
Amidst these developments, the official announcement of the production cancellation on the 19th has led to fan reactions such as "I was looking forward to it... what a pity," "To think such a popular work could be cancelled," "This is so sad, I feel like dying," "Announcing the cancellation is honest," and "I was prepared, but hearing it officially is tough."
#yurionice https://t.co/aKxp3MbWM5
